About the Project :
‘School Student Helpline’ (SSH) is a mechanism to reach out to School Students across the State and take care of their needs and problems. It is a toll free phone number through which any student (Class I-X) whose right to education is at stake or has a suggestion to make, can dial the Toll Free No. or send electronic mail to draw the attention of the apex authorities. It is also a medium for students to draw the attention of the Govt. in case they are subjected to corporal punishment or sexual harassment in School/ hostel.

Back Drop :
  • In spite of continuous efforts through different plan & programme we are yet to reach all the un-reached across the state.
  • Multiple causes result in drop-out of enrolled children. When the rights of students in the school are denied they have no one to complain to. More so the needs & problems of vulnerable children such as girls, children with special needs (CWSN), children of disadvantaged sections of society remain unaddressed.
  • Harassment to Students in Schools: In spite of ban on corporal punishment, cases of students being victimized are reported from time to time.
  • Sexual abuse of students in School / hostel, particularly of girl children in KGBV results in the drop-out of children.

Objectives :
Right to Education (RTE) guarantees Free & Compulsory Education up to Class-VIII and R.M.S.A. provides opportunity for universalization of Secondary Education. Thus the objectives of Helpline are:
  • To ensure that every child in the state has the opportunity to ventilate his / her need for education and the protection of child rights pertaining to education.
  • To ensure safe and conducive environment for all students to pursue their studies.
  • To create a forum for students’ participation in programme planning and implementation.
